Joni Metolius is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Divorce Mediator.
Her MFT practice focuses on individual, family, couples, and co-worker therapies. Believing that dynamic change is always possible, Joni works with people grappling with anguish surrounding trauma, life-altering medical conditions, divorce, substance abuse, recovery, and disruptive behaviors that overlap between the personal and professional spheres.
Joni sees a need for a focused yet holistic approach. Her method encompasses Integrative Therapy and Family Systems combined with clinical applications derived from current neurological research. Believing that the healing process is grounded in effective communication skills, Joni incorporates active listening and focused attention as essential methods to inspire emotional movement. She uses this integrated combination to show the way forward for her clients. Joni works to help each person bring clarity to the key challenges in their moment of crisis, recover from the impact, and create tools of resilience.
With a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling in the Industrial Setting and as a published author on the subject of workplace violence prevention and its aftermath, Joni conducts critical-incident debriefings for a range of Employee Assistance Programs that provide direct services throughout the San Francisco Bay area. Joni works closely with first responders, law enforcement, and bank personnel in emergency situations with high-media visibility. Joni also leads seminars on both mental health and mental illness in the workplace—she centers her on-site efforts to help co-workers cultivate empathetic communication skills for conflict and crisis-resolution.
Always integrating different methods to help shift the emotional narrative (whether engaging energy-psychology or playing with her therapy-dog, Friday) Joni is committed to creating space and light even in times of anxiety, grief, and dark sadness—one conversation at a time.
